OUTDOOR EDUCATION CENTRE

Ideal for school groups, church groups, youth groups, hobby groups, sports training, team building, family reunions, tramping clubs and adventure groups!

Lonsdale Park, located 2km down Matauri Bay Road and 8km from Kaeo, is situated on 17 acres, half of which is in stunning bush. It was generously donated to 'The Children of Northland' by Mr and Mrs ‘Pop’ Driver in 1963.

Accommodation includes:

General purposes hall with dining facilities for 80 people

Attached kitchen with commercial stoves, double fridge, chest freezer, dishwasher and all cooking equipment, crockery and cutlery for 80 people

Four student lodges with bunks (65 beds) and two adult lodges (10 beds). All lodges have showers and toilets either within or adjoining. Three lodges have ablution disability features

Laundry with coin operated washing machine and drier

Outdoor BBQ, mattresses, cleaning equipment, display boards, whiteboard, drop-down projector screen, recycling bins and optional rubbish disposal

Outdoor activities:

A large grass playing area, shaded with pine trees

Confidence course with flying fox, rope net, Burmese bridge, fireman’s pole, two-rope walkalong, tyre scrambling wall

Group challenge course with activites to encourage group co-operation

Commando course with rope and wall climbs, log wall, scramble net

Blindfold course with 30 metres of cord winding through bush, over the stream and logs, around trees and obstructions

Conservation area with 11 study stations

Compass work with maps and compasses provided

Orienteering course with master maps provided

Hiking track over farmland and through bush down the Takou River, where there is a swimming hole

Tug-o-war rope supplied

Camp fire arena

Bring: Bedding, pillows etc, personal requirements, food, soap, toilet rolls, towels, detergent, tea towels, dishcloths, rubbish bags, coins for laundry, sports equipment, torches (for night walk) and first aid kit.
