Camp Sladdin aims to be a cost effective place for various training organisations, churches, Scout, Guide, or other youth groups to stay in a base camp environment. Our great facilities include lots of hot showers,and toilets (etc). We have 39 bunks plus marae style sleeping for up to 20 people. Additional members of trained groups (such as Scouts) who are using the base camp may camp on the grounds if they require.
Cost: - Inside: $15 per person per night - Outside: $7.50 per person per night - The minimum charge is 20 people for two nights Location: Camp Sladdin is situated on a large bush reserve area at the end of Thorpe’s Quarry Road, about half a kilometer from Clevedon Village. The village is well served with shops, dairy and a garage for your various needs. There is approximately a hectare of fairly flat mown lawn with plenty of large shade trees - suitable for outside Camp Sladdin activities in good weather. In addition there is several hundred hectares of bush reserve available for activities, walks and tramps (etc).
Activities: Camp Sladdin has many fun and team building activities (available in the wider area) for your group to use with your own qualified instructor for each activity. We advise that you check these out beforehand to help with your planning. These include: - Tramping in the Hunua Ranges, Wairoa Gorge, Sladdin Bush Reserve and in the wider area - The quarry which is suitable for abseiling and climbing - Several local beaches for swimming and boating (etc), such as Waitawa, Kawakawa Bay, Umupuia, Duders, Maraetai and Beachlands - A small river suitable for some canoeing activities both in the tidal section and further up the Wairoa Gorge area - Tidal below Clevedon all fresh water above Clevedon - Visits to the various organisations at nearby Ardmore Aerodrome can be arranged. Facilities: - Two large activity halls - Four bunkrooms sleeping 39 - Plenty of room for extra marae style sleeping if required - One bunkroom (set up for ladies) with own shower and toilet - A separate wheelchair accessible toilet within one of the halls - A large ablution block with fully covered access - A separate toilet block for public who utilise the reserve - An under-cover loading and unloading bay with a cart dock for all weather access - Kitchen with a large commercial gas stove and domestic stoves, well set up for large groups - Good cell phone coverage for your safety and convienience. Please note Camp Sladdin does not have a landline - Secure parking is available inside a council controlled gate which is locked each night - Please note local fire restrictions apply in dry weather
